More Than a Sign

“So they said to him, ‘Then what sign do you do, that we may see and believe you? What work do you perform?” – John 6:30

The moment is almost hard to believe. Just one day earlier, Jesus had fed over five thousand people with a boy’s lunch. They had seen it with their own eyes. Tasted it with their own mouths. But now here they are, the same people who stood there the day before, are standing in front of Jesus, asking for another sign.

Before we shake our heads, we should be honest. We do the same thing. God provides, then we forget. He answers a prayer, then we demand something new. He proves Himself faithful, and somehow we still want a little more proof before we fully obey or surrender.

We say things like, “If God really wanted me to do this, He would give me a clear sign.” Or, “I’ll move forward when I feel more peace.” But often, what we call “waiting for confirmation” is just delayed obedience. We don’t need more signs. We need more faith in the One who has already spoken.

In John 6, Jesus points them beyond signs. He says He is the true bread from heaven. Not just a miracle worker, but the miracle itself. They wanted another trick. He offered them Himself. But they missed it, because they were hungry for the wrong thing.

How often do you look past Jesus, trying to get something from Him instead? How often do you settle for chasing spiritual fireworks instead of building your life on His word?

Jesus doesn’t exist to keep proving Himself over and over again. He already did that at the cross and the empty tomb. That’s all the sign you need. So don’t let your faith hinge on your feelings, your circumstances, or your demand for another miracle.

His word is enough. He is enough. Let that be enough for you today.
