The Privilege of Adoption

"To redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons. And because you are sons, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, Abba Father. So you are no longer a slave, but a son, and if a son, then an heir through God." - Galatians 4:5-7

Many people think Christianity is about trying harder. Trying to be good enough. Trying to earn favor. Trying to work your way into God’s approval. But Paul gives us a completely different picture. Jesus did not redeem you so you could become a better servant. He redeemed you so you could become a child. The gospel does not lead you into slavery. It leads you into a family.

Adoption is one of the most beautiful images in Scripture. It describes a deliberate choice. A decision made not out of obligation but out of love. When God adopted you, He did not do it reluctantly. He wanted you. He chose you. He brought you into His family with full rights, full access, and full inheritance. You are not on the outside looking in. You belong to Him.

Paul says that because you are God’s child, He sent His Spirit into your heart so that you can call Him Abba Father. That is not formal language. That is personal. It's intimate. It’s the cry of someone who knows they are loved, welcomed, and secure. God does not want you relating to Him through fear or distance. He wants you to come to Him the way a child comes to a loving father, with confidence and trust.

Being adopted means your identity has changed. You no longer live under the weight of guilt or the pressure to earn something from God. You no longer carry the label of slave. You carry the name of son or daughter. Your position is secure because Jesus paid the price that made your adoption possible.

You are not working for love. You are living from it. You are not trying to earn a place in God’s family. You already have one. Today, let this truth settle in your heart. You have a Father who loves you, a Savior who redeemed you, and a Spirit who reminds you who you are. You are a child of God, and nothing can change that.
